Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man release ‘The Lay of the Land the Turn of the Tide’ EP

June 9th 2008, Transgressive Records

Transgressive Records have a habit of blowing the ranks of boldness, for being fearless enough to take on projects they believe to be otherworldly and brilliant however unconventional and hope that the tide of normality will wash up behind them. It’s proven to work time and time again, and never as much so as with new band Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man, an act that don’t fit any current brand by any grade, however offer a proletarian dark-pop glimpse at what might have happened if Echo and the Bunnymen had become an experimental art rock project.

Johnny ForeignerNot that their music is particularly unapproachable, vocalist Fred Blood-Royale (not one for the theatrics there, then) will be an instant barricade to many. His vernacular is indeed distinct and will break many who approach this unique sound, though the minority who endeavour beyond the ominous façade will find a prevailing and filthy work of rock ‘n’ roll, never so as pertinent as on this new EP, ‘The Lay of the Land the Turn of the Tide’.

The centre piece to this astonishingly energetic and religiously smokescreened release is the pounding, drum led, ‘The Drowned and the Saved’ which has the ropes confidently gaping open for submission. It’s a somewhat goth version of System of a Down’s more operatic and muted moments, the utilization of rock and the power of spiritual imagery forming a beguiling lightshow on your logic, the highbrow meeting the deranged in the most euphoric of accords.

Due for release on June 2nd, this will be an EP that the grandkids will raise in disbelief in generations; panting looks of disbelief on their cherub-like faces.Ox.Eahle.Lion.Man
