Now on his seventh, count ‘em kids… seventh… album, this New Yorker can boast strings like early REM, melodies like Fleet Foxes and a voice like Christian Slater. It makes sense, trust us. Robust and manly, his songs are a softened blow for a San Franciscan wonder year and a peppered collection of everything good circa 1983. You can pick out influences such as Jeff Buckley and Chris Whitley, but Mike Borgia in general represents a far broader style of Americana, an amicable and widely loved sound that can encompass almost anything that falls under the heading of good rock music.
Album #7 "Philistines & Alcoholics" is best described as the album that defines the true writing capability and honesty that Mike Borgia displays. Each song has it's own theme and although different, this album flows with pure emotion and dedication.
